Aeroponic clone machine systems use no growing medium and actually offer the highest performance possible. This is the most popular system for cloning due to the increased effectiveness and ease of use when the plants are so small. Roots are suspended in a dark chamber where they are sprayed or misted with oxygen rich nutrient solution (usually a very low ppm to avoid burning the clones). The humidity in the chambers maintain close to 100% humidity 24 hours a day which is another advantage to using this system for cloning.
Aeroponic systems to require a bit more maintenance and attention to detail however; and this is why most people opt to use it just for cloning, and not the more advanced stages of growth. You really need to keep an eye on things because if your pump fails or if your sprinkler heads get clogged, it could mean the death of your clones.
